Estimator / Planner – Propane Gas Division

Position Overview

The Estimator Planner Propane Gas Division is a key office‑based technical and operational support role responsible for cost estimating, work planning, materials coordination, and scheduling support related to propane and compressed gas systems. This role supports daily operations by acting as a critical link between field technicians, suppliers, and management. The position requires extensive hands‑on industry knowledge, strong mechanical or trades experience, and the ability to interpret technical information to support accurate planning and execution of work.

Responsibilities

1. Estimating & Cost Analysis

  • Prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates for propane and compressed gas projects, service work, installations, upgrades, and maintenance activities
  • Analyze job scope, specifications, drawings, and customer requirements to determine labour, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs
  • Review historical cost data and field input to support pricing accuracy
  • Identify potential cost risks, scope gaps, or technical challenges during the estimating phase
  • Support management decision‑making through clear and well‑documented estimates

2. Planning & Job Preparation

  • Assist with planning work activities to support efficient job execution
  • Coordinate planning details including scope sequencing, materials readiness, and technical requirements
  • Participate in pre‑job planning discussions to ensure alignment between estimates and operational capacity
  • Support preparation of work packages and job documentation as required

3. Materials & Parts Coordination

  • Review and process material and parts requests submitted by field technicians
  • Coordinate with procurement, suppliers, and warehouse functions to support timely ordering and delivery
  • Assist with verifying material quantities, specifications, and compatibility with propane systems
  • Track materials for upcoming scheduled work and flag potential supply or lead‑time issues
  • Support efforts to minimize delays caused by material shortages or incorrect orders

4. Scheduling Support

  • Provide scheduling support to operations and field teams
  • Assist with job sequencing based on technician availability, material readiness, and priority
  • Communicate schedule updates or changes as required
  • Support adjustments to schedules in response to operational changes or unforeseen issues

5. Technical & Operational Support

  • Act as technical resource related to propane and compressed gas systems
  • Interpret technical drawings, layouts, specifications, and regulatory requirements relevant to propane installations
  • Liaise between office staff, field personnel, and management to ensure clear and accurate technical communication
  • Support adherence to applicable safety standards, codes, and industry best practices
  • Assist with resolving technical or logistical questions that arise during planning and execution

Qualifications & Experience

  • 10–15 years of progressive experience in: mechanical trades, propane systems, or compressed gas environments
  • Strong working knowledge of: propane/LP gas systems, components, installations, and servicing requirements
  • Demonstrated experience in estimating, planning, scheduling, or technical coordination
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret: technical drawings, specifications, and system layouts
  • Proficiency with standard office software and estimating tools

Pay: $32.00-$40.00 per hour

Experience:

  • Propane systems, or compressed gas environments: 10 years (preferred)
