ABOUT THE ROLE

The Industrial Millwright is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment. This role ensures equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support production and operational requirements. The Industrial Millwright works with a variety of mechanical systems in compliance with safety standards, technical specifications, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Installation & Assembly

  • Install, assemble, align, and commission industrial machinery and mechanical equipment
  • Set up conveyors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, motors, and production equipment
  • Perform precision alignment using mechanical and electronic alignment tools
  • Interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery
  • Inspect equipment for wear, misalignment, vibration, or mechanical failure
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues
  • Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns and minimize downtime

Repair & Service

  • Repair or replace bearings, seals, shafts, couplings, belts, motors, and other components
  • Perform basic fabrication, cutting, fitting, and welding as required
  • Rebuild or overhaul machinery and mechanical assemblies

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all company safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe work practices at all times.
  • Identify hazards and report unsafe conditions or equipment defects
  • Participate in safety meetings, inspections, and training

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete maintenance logs, work orders, inspection reports, and service documentation
  • Record parts usage, repair details, and equipment condition
  • Communicate equipment status and maintenance recommendations to supervisors

Tools, Equipment & Work Area

  • Safely operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, lifting devices, and precision instruments
  • Assist with rigging, hoisting, and moving heavy equipment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment

Collaboration & Support

  • Work closely with electricians, operators, engineers, and maintenance teams
  • Support production, shutdowns, and major maintenance activities
  • Provide technical guidance to apprentices or junior mechanics as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Journeyperson Industrial Millwright certification or completion of a recognized apprenticeship
  • 3-7+ years of industrial maintenance experience (role dependent)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics
  • Experience in industrial, mining, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments an asset
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications

Working Conditions / Location

  • Industrial plant or site-based environment
  • Exposure to noise, moving machinery, grease, and varying temperatures
  • May involve shift work, overtime, or on call duties
  • Physically demanding work includes lifting, climbing, and confined space entry
